“Never underestimate the
power of clever people to help others see the possibilities, to help them generate a feeling of faith, and to change behavior.”
― John P. Kotter
Focus on my students:
Benjamin Bloom recognizes three domains in the learning process: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor, or head, heart, and hands. Most of the time, as educators, we emphasize the cognitive domain in our teaching, assuming that students think and learn with their brains. Recently, experts started recognizing the importance of the affective domain, which can enhance, inhibit or even prevent student learning. We should encourage our students to receive information and respond to what they learn by valuing it, organizing it, and possibly characterizing themselves as scientists.
Focus on my Innovation Plan:
If we want to succeed in any change process, we must identify the purpose, cause, belief, or why we do what we do. (Sinek, 2013).
Kotter (2011) recommends that if we want to be heard and have our audience respond, we must target their hearts before their brains. He also said that it is crucial to establish a sense of urgency.
To bring change into our schools, we must communicate our why; we need to act promptly and with the intention to make things happen efficiently and effectively. I learned two more tips to incorporate into my Innovation Plan. I must explain my why in my letter proposal and review my implementation outline.
