The Benefit of Networking

"Networking is not collecting contacts! Networking is about planting relations,

A few weeks ago, while looking ahead on the topics for discussion, my curiosity drove me to start researching networking and the benefits it could bring to joining them.

According to Lalande, M. (2022), "a Personal Learning Network is a way of describing the group of people that you connect with to learn their ideas, their questions, their reflections, and their references."

Social Networking has become very popular during the past few years, and it plays an important role in our life nowadays. Some of the benefits of being a part of a learning network are:

  • Get support when needed

  • Learn the latest trends in education

  • Find inspiration from others

  • Collaborate globally in projects

  • Make connections (regional, national, and international)

  • Follow amazing educators and their blogs

  • Share your resources and ideas

  • Find great resources, lesson plans, and conferences

Since networking is an important part of achieving success as a teacher, we should consider joining them. However, there are also some potential obstacles users may face such as privacy issues, miscommunication, and information overload which can be time-consuming (Zaidieh, 2012). In order to avoid these issues, we should be more selective and critical when exploring networks.

The networks that recently joined are:

I follow Richard Byrne's blogs. Richard Byrne is a former high school social studies teacher best known for developing the award-winning blog Free Technology for Teachers, an online directory for free resources that teachers can use in their classrooms. I receive an e-mail every week. https://www.freetech4teachers.com

I became a member of EdWeek, an independent news organization focused on covering issues about K-12 education. The publication offers content in print, video, and online.

Edutech for Teachers (a combination of "education" and "technology") refers to hardware and software designed to enhance teacher-led learning in classrooms and improve students' education outcomes.
