Sparking learning

"Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better tan you found it."

-Marian Wright Edelman

Sir Robinson claims that education needs to be reformed, and we, educators, need to prepare our children for the jobs of the 21st Century. We need to spark students' learning because we do not know what those jobs look like. Ramsey Musallam gives three rules to prepare our children for this changing world. First comes curiosity; as educators, we must promote inquiry since questions create windows for instruction. We must embrace the mess and allow students to experiment through trial and error. Finally, we need to encourage reflection.

By creating digital environments that promote collaboration, we are facilitating cooperation among our students. Connectivity is essential when we try to innovate. Sometimes, good ideas take time to be recognized as good ones, but if we share them, they can collide with others, and the ideas become recognized.

E-mail software (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail), conferencing (Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams), and instant messaging (GroupMe, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger) are examples of digital tools for collaboration.

The topic I want to write about is ePortfolios for 5th graders as an engaging learning tool to develop their writing skills. Writing has been one of the areas I have improved the most since I created my e-Portfolio, so I believe that everyone can develop writing skills through reflection, feedback, and the process of revising.

These are the online publications that I would like to share:

I follow Richard Byrne's blogs. Richard Byrne is a former high school social studies teacher best known for developing the award-winning blog Free Technology for Teachers, an online directory for free resources that teachers can use in their classrooms. I receive an e-mail every week. https://www.freetech4teachers.com

I am a member of EdWeek, an independent news organization focused on covering issues about K-12 education. The publication offers content in print, video, and online.

Edutech for Teachers (a combination of "education" and "technology") refers to hardware and software designed to enhance teacher-led learning in classrooms and improve students' education outcomes.
