RISK TAKING

"If everything you do works. Then you're not taking many risks and probably aren't innovating either."

Paul Buchheit

Trying to implement an innovation comes with a risk. This new idea may or may not work. Having a growth mindset helps us feel comfortable in making mistakes. By modeling this behavior to our students, they will learn that making mistakes is okay and is part of the learning process. Creating a culture of collaboration is also very important during the implementation; feeling that we are not alone gives us more confidence to experiment and try new things. When teachers have the support of colleagues gives us more confidence. Collaboration is also essential not only among teachers but teachers and students. In this new culture of learning, everyone can learn from each other. If we allow this kind of collaboration, our students can feel more confident exploring new ideas. They love to see if they can teach us something. Teachers don’t know everything, I believe we can learn from our students.

As educators, our role is more like a mentor or coach; students are the leaders, and it is vital to listen to them. We must support them in finding their passions and exploring deeper in which they are interested (personal learning). When they are engaged in their knowledge, it is more likely they become lifelong learners.

My goal is to help my students become life-long learners. It can be achieved by promoting a growth mindset where we can see mistakes as opportunities and teachers and students feel comfortable learning together. Only this way learning will become a natural process.
