Instructional Design

for the Online Course:

Creating and Developing my ePortfolio

This course is designed for the teachers and administrators who will be part of my ePortfolio team as a part of my Innovation Plan. It has a student-centered approach where learners construct their knowledge and learn at their own pace. The role of the teacher is more like a coach or mentor, providing guided choices, access to information, and social networking.

Subject: Creating and developing my ePortfolio

Level of instruction: Professional Development

Intended audience: Innovation Plan ePortfolio team (5th-grade teachers modeling ePortfolio practice with their students).

Key institutional document: Syllabus

Instructional Design Approach: Backward design OBE using Fink’s 3-Column Table

Duration: Five Weeks/Modules

This course intends to create a significant learning environment with a student-centered approach where the learners have choice, voice, and ownership through authentic learning opportunities, which gives the participants control of their learning and allows them to work at their own pace. There will not be any summative assignments, so that no grades will be given. Each assignment will drive instruction, informing the instructor what the participants know and do not know and setting the direction of the course. The learning assessments consist of feedback from the instructor and peers, open discussions and collaboration sessions, and a self-evaluation consisting of a reflection of the participant's engagement at the end of the course. Reflection is essential to ePortfolio, allowing the learner to make meaningful connections encouraging deeper, self-directed, and life-long learning.
