I am a Mexican immigrant that came to the United States twenty-five years ago. As any other immigrant, I left my hometown with the purpose to fill out my dreams. On of them was to obtain a master's degree from a foreign university.
In 1996, I graduated from Instituto Tecnológico de Morelia and completed my bachelor's degree with a major in Management Information Systems. My first job in ICATMI was as a Computer Instructor, teaching mainly adults. The curriculum of my undergraduate program was too broad, so I decided to explore different areas. As a head of Publlic Relations department at CREFAL, an autonomous international organization, I realized the importance to be bilingual. My English proficiency at that time was very basic, so I decided to study at Hansa Language Center in Toronto, Canada. Unfortunately, it was only for a short period of time
In 1999, I moved to Texas, got married, and along with that came many responsibilities. Struggling with money and an adjustment of my legal residency status, I had to work different kinds of jobs to survive. One of the distinctive personality traits that I love about myself is that I always have an open mind and a passion for learning, which lead me to explore another field, beauty services.
I graduated from Champion Beauty College and received my cosmetology license in 2003 and worked in the beauty business until 2016. The flexibility in my schedule allowed me to get very involve in my daughter's education.
In 2008, I attended San Jacinto College to complete the ESL (English as a second language) program.
In 2017, I started working for Channelview ISD. At first, I worked as a substitute teacher, then as a tutor. After many years, I returned to the education field and found my passion for teaching young minds. It took me a long time to figure out what I wanted in life.
On January 2023, I finally started my master's in education at Lamar University It was challenging but gratifying. I learned a new approach to education and made COVA (Choice, Ownership, Voice through Authentic learning opportunities) part of my teaching philosophy and the use of technology as a catalyst to enhance learning.
Immediately after I completed my master's degree, I registered in an ACP (Alternative Certification Program) at ACiT. It was a journey to prepare and pass all my exams. It took hard work, discipline and dedication, but I enjoyed the process. I still have many goals and dreams to fulfill. As a teacher, I want to make a difference in my student's learning experiences that prepares them to be self-directed and lifelong learners.
